Asbestos Abatement in South Dakota
The Importance of Proper Asbestos Abatement
Asbestos is hazardous to human health, and the removal of materials containing asbestos must be done with the utmost care in order to prevent exposure. A professional asbestos abatement contractor MUST do the following things:
-
File all proper paperwork with the State of South Dakota DENR
-
Fully seal off the work area to isolate it from other building spaces
-
Establish negative air pressure within the work space
-
Use adequate water to minimize airborne fiber concentrations
-
Double bag all friable asbestos materials
-
Fully clean the work space following abatement (using ONLY a HEPA vacuum)
-
Run clearance air samples in the work area following final clean up
-
Take the contained asbestos materials to a CERTIFIED landfill, and complete the proper paperwork for this disposal
If an abatement contractor is not following these basic standards, they are no doing the work properly, and could be putting building occupants at risk.
Experience
Experience is critical when it comes to asbestos abatement work. It is the consultant's job to ensure that other building occupants are breathing clean air and that the abatement workers are outfitted with the correct protective equipment during abatement work.
